Helping Stockholm serve food within the planetary boundaries!

This campaign received a 5000 £ microgrant by Healthy Food Healthy Planet via Sustain's Food For the Planet microgrant program.

Svensk mat- och miljöinformation, The Swedish Food and Environment Information, is a non-profit member organisation working for a sustainable food system in line with the Sustainable Development Goals of the Agenda 2030.  Since animal agriculture is the major cause of negative environmental impact in the food sector, the main focus of the organisation  is to promote a radical reduction in the production and consumption of animal foods in Sweden and globally.

By signing the Good Food Cities declaration, Stockholm has committed to keeping its food consumption per capita within the planetary boundaries by 2030. The city also has a food strategy including goals to reduce its environmental impact by improving its food procurement standards. This is very positive, but the goals in the food strategy need to be more ambitious regarding targets and timelines.

The campaign has therefore three main objectives:

  • promoting more ambitious environmental goals and timelines in the Stockholm's food strategy.
  • building public awareness about the importance of public meal services in setting-up food consumption standards.
  • building public support for more ambitious goals and measures for Stockholm to keep its public meals within the planetary boundaries.
  • helping the city speed-up its transition towards more sustainable food systems.
